I have an idea but no specification. Is that okay?
Yes. Start with who will use the system and what is difficult today. One real example helps: where a request comes from, what the team does and where time is lost. A consultant will turn that into scoping questions; detailed discovery is agreed as a separate stage.
Can you improve an existing project rather than replace it?
Start with the code, infrastructure and key workflows. If the existing foundation fits, keeping it may be the better choice. When a component needs replacing, plan data migration, compatibility and rollback first.
How do I understand the price before development starts?
A short description helps start a scoping discussion, not establish an honest final price. A proposal needs scope, integrations, design, data handling and acceptance criteria. Development costs are separated from hosting, paid services, AI usage, email and support.
Who owns the code and accounts?
Ownership, third-party licences, handover materials and account owners are defined in the contract. Agree early on the repository location, domain and cloud account ownership, and what your team receives at handover.
Can AI completely replace an operator?
That depends on the workflow, the cost of errors and the quality of sources. A bounded task such as search, classification or drafting is often a useful start. Test it on representative work, include human handoff and agree separately on actions with external consequences.
